In Ohio, it might soon be possible to forego the driving instructor and have young drivers learn the ways of the road through an app that’s being operated by someone 21 years old or older.

Grange Insurance is developing the app which reportedly can “turn any 21-year-old into an untrained and uncertified, but still allegedly capable, driving instructor.”

What’s more, the Ohio legislature seems to be on board with the app concept with the introduction of House Bill 425 and Senate Bill 218, both of which would give this the green light.

Representative Roy Klopfenstein says the idea behind approving app-based driving instruction…even by untrained and uncertified instructors…is to “alleviate waiting lists for new drivers to get their driving education,” particularly due to the lack of qualified instructors in the state.

For some reason, this has a definite “it seemed like a good idea at the time” vibe all over it.
