Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a…”Superman” sequel. James Gunn has officially announced “Man of Tomorrow,” the next project in his “Superman Saga,” in a post to social media.
The reveal was accompanied by a drawing of Superman leaning against Lex Luthor in a green and purple mech suit, drawn by DC head Jim Lee.
Gunn has previously teased that his next project will feature characters from the hit “Superman” movie, but that it won’t be a direct sequel.
It’s not known what the story will be at this time, though there is a “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” animated movie from 2020 that featured Lobo (Jason Momoa plays Lobo in the upcoming “Supergirl” movie, by the way).
That movie was based on the “Superman: Birthright” comic book mini-series from 2003, which was a modern take on Superman’s origin story. “Man of Tomorrow” is set to fly into theaters on July 9, 2027.
