Girl Saves Her Family From House Fire Sparked By Lightning Strike

An 11-year-old girl in Oklahoma City is being hailed as a hero for recently saving her family from a house fire sparked by a lightning strike. Mandy Eggleston was watching TV when the strike hit, quickly filling the house with smoke. She ran to wake her sleeping mother, Jamie, and younger brother, Ryan, helping them to safety despite her mother injuring her ankle during the escape.

Mandy kept calm, unlocked the door to get everyone out, and called 911, later taking charge by handling phone calls and texts from concerned friends and family. Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Greg Lindsay commended the tween’s quick and mature actions for making sure everyone made it out safely. The family’s home was destroyed, but fortunately no one was seriously hurt.

A few days after the fire, the Eggleston family reunited with the firefighters from Station 13 to share their deep gratitude. Despite losing their home, the family shares that they’ve received tremendous community support and they plan to rebuild in the same location.
