The Stark County Humane Society is offering an update on a distressing story from the weekend.
The shelter had reported that a stray dog without tags or a microchip was brought in this past Friday only to be claimed by two men on Saturday.
It was later learned that the men were not the dog's owners and, when contacted, the men said they no longer had the animal and had given it to someone else who told them that he was the owner.
The Stark County Sheriff's Office became involved and the humane society now says the dog has been recovered safely and given to its rightful owners.
Authorities are continuing to investigate.
