Samantha Ramirez, a Waffle House server and mother of five in Parker, Colorado, received an unexpected $1,000 tip from Denver Broncos player Justin Simmons. At first, Ramirez was unfazed by the presence of celebrities, including Simmons and his friends, dining at the restaurant. But when she received the generous tip, was deeply moved and grateful, acknowledging how much it would mean for her family.
Following the kind gesture, Ramirez learned that Waffle House's policy meant she had to wait to receive her tip, causing her distress as she needed the funds for her family during the holidays. When she expressed her concerns, Waffle House's corporate team responded quickly, sending a representative from their Atlanta headquarters to Denver to make sure Ramirez received her tip promptly. They also acknowledged their appreciation of her feedback about the policy.
Ramirez was grateful for the company’s response and happy her concern might have a positive outcome for other Waffle House employees. She also sent heartfelt thanks to Simmons for his gift. “Thank you, ‘cause you did something for me that was so small for you, and it changed a lot,” Ramirez says, “It made an impact on everyone.”
