Prince Harry’s Friend Explains Reason Behind Harry & Meghan's Royal Exit

Prince Harry‘s friend JJ Chalmers has spoken out about why he believes the Duke of Sussex made the unprecedented decision to step back from royal duties.

While appearing on the UK show The One Show on Friday (January 10), JJ, who met Harry while they were both serving in the military, defended Harry and his wife Meghan Markle‘s royal exit, saying the decision was made to "protect" their family.

“He’s less the captain in the army I knew, and he’s more a father that’s the first thing I ask him about,” JJ said. “And I think the decision that he has made, at the forefront of that is to protect his family because that’s the number one rule is to be a father and to be a husband." He added, "any husband wants to protect their wife and any father wants to protect their children."

JJ went on to discuss the type of man Harry is and why he believes the royal's eight-month-old son Archie was a big part of the reason Harry chose to step back. “He is a very principled individual and so when he looks at how the media reacts and how social media talks about someone, he has to answer to his son one day when he begins to understand this and be able to look him in the face and say, ‘I made the right decision and I did right by you,'” he explained.

“And ultimately he grew up in the limelight and knows how it will end if this isn’t handled correctly,” JJ added, referring to Harry’s mother Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash while trying running away from paparazzi in1997.
