After A 3 Year Absence, The Washington Monument Is Set To Reopen!

After a three year absence for renovations, the Washington Monument has reopened to the public! The monument will reopen at noon today with First Lady Melania Trump expected for the ribbon cutting ceremonies.

The monument was closed in September 2016 in order for its aging elevator system to be replaced. Further improvements included a state-of-the-art security system.

The monument, completed in 1884, is a 555 foot obelisk which remains the tallest object in Washington, D.C. The Washington Monument gets about 500,000 visitors per year. It’s great to see it back open to the public!
