Iman opened up about the special meaning behind the tattoo she got to honor her late husband, David Bowie.
The legendary model unveiled the tattoo in January to mark the 10th anniversary of the iconic musician's death from liver cancer at age 69.
Iman explained that the design was inspired by Bowie’s final album, Blackstar.
“It actually says Bowie in stars,” she told PEOPLE on Wednesday (Sept. 9).
The distinctive design appeared on the cover of Blackstar, which dropped just two days before Bowie’s death in January 2016.
Iman and Bowie met on a blind date in 1990 and married two years later. They welcomed daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones in 2000 and remained married until Bowie’s death.
A decade later, Iman revealed that she continues finding ways to celebrate her late husband.
“It’s trying to keep the memory alive that is joyful, you know?” she explained.
